GMF Steel originally came to IDX to revamp their employee uniform program. They wanted to explore a marketing partnership with a vendor who offered quality merchandise and product expertise.

As a strategic partner, we asked more questions about the “why” behind this need. This led us to uncover the real problem: employee turnover.

In the construction and engineering industry, employees move from company to company frequently, often based on a slight bump in hourly rate. The amount of time and energy it takes to hire a new employee to make up for the loss isn’t sustainable. To boost employee retention, GMF Steel saw the need to enhance company loyalty and company culture, as well as recognize their employees for the work they do.

IDX partnered with GMF to not only create quality custom uniforms, but create a unique rewards system for employees using the company store and purchasing branded merch. Using Steel Bucks, managers and supervisors are able to distribute rewards points to their employees, allowing them to redeem on the company store for high-quality items. We worked with GMF to ensure the items offered in the store were things employees actually desired – items they would normally buy retail but could get at a discounted rate for doing good work. We also created a pop-up feature for holidays with exclusive items for added excitement around the season.

After one year of implementing a branded yet simple online company store for GMF’s need of solving employee recognition, we are excited to hear of the high adoption and success it’s created – and the desire to expand the merchandise offerings of the rewards program.
